O.k. I have been wanting to say A LOT of things about A LOT of subjects revolving around our election, but have been avoiding it as well. I know that if I get going I will never stop. Anyway. I just want to take a stand on this issue because it has such a massive potential to redefine all we know. I have had gay friends. I have friends who have gay family members. I think that to treat gays with hostility, hate, name calling, or any other un-christlike attitude is terribly wrong and not something condoned by a loving Heavenly Father. He loves them just as he loves the rest of us. That is not to say we should not take a moral stand against the issue. Do we give the alcoholic a bottle, or the porn addict a playboy? No, we love them. We help them. We fight the wrongs but we do it with integrity, fairness, and respectability. O.k. having said that I'd like to borrow a quote from a gentleman named Paul on the Deseret News website. I think it rightly sums up how I personally feel about it all and about the members of our church who are giving up all they have for the ways of the world. And why now? Where were you all before this prop 8 thing? Likely you were just going about your day to day lives not giving a flicker of thought to the plight of the gay community. It seems plain that the only reason you have even thought on it is because some one prodded you to do so. We truly must study these things out in our minds and in our hearts so that when the time comes, we know who we are and what we stand for, rather than be caught of guard and allow ourselves to be tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. O.k. anyway, here's the quote.
He said in essence, that many members are selling their birthright for a mess of political pottage.
The world will scream at us. I have a feeling that the ridicule we will receive over this issue will be unparalleled as to date. We will lose many. But it is a war after all. And such things will only become more frequent. And the persecution will only become stronger. Men will call good, evil, and evil, good. Just gotta decide which side you're on.
"Oh Lord God, deliver us in Thy due time from the little narrow prison, almost as it were, total darkness of paper, pen and ink and a crooked, broken, scattered and imperfect language."
-Joseph Smith
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?"
- Martin Luther King Jr.
The Gods we worship write their names on our faces, be sure of that. And a person will worship something, have no doubt of that either. One may think that tribute is paid in secret, in the dark recesses of his or her heart, but it is not. That which dominates imagination and thoughts will determine life and character. Therefore it behooves us to be careful what we are worshiping. For what we are worshiping, we are becoming.

amen!
In August, the church came out with an explanation of its official stance on this issue. It helped to clear up a lot of questions that I had about this issue and helped me to resolve the conflict between my intellect and my heart. It can be found at http://newsroom.lds.org/ldsnewsroom/eng/commentary/the-divine-institution-of-marriage
I know there are a lot of members of the church that are opposing Proposition 8. My hope is that they study what our leaders have said. It is clear and simple. We are given opportunities in our lives to choose to follow or disobey the Lord. There are consequences to both regardless of what the world does or whether or not a Proposition passes. Steve Young's wife recently donated 50,000 dollars to those opposing Proposition 8. I feel so sorry for her. For me it is simple. Either you stand with the Lord or you don't. There you have it.
There you have it.
It is always annoying to me that they can do to us what they do not want anyone to do to them. Double standard? Yes! And they have always lived by this double standard!
Persecution separated the sheep from the goats during pioneer times. We haven't had so-called persecution for a long time. Life has been too easy. Now we will see who are sheep and who are goats. Goats - isn't that a fitting analogy? Makes me laugh.
The righteous left Sodom and Gomorrah (I'm too lazy to look up the right spelling) as it became too wicked. It may be interesting to see if people begin to flock to Utah and it's "Stakes" seeking to flee Sodom. It will bring about much righteousness. The Lord has His ways.
